Thanks for coming back to the Soul Business blog... I'm touched that you're resonating with it. Hey if you haven't already, do you think you could pluck up the courage to leave a comment on a post you like? I'd love to have your contribution...
Sometimes, after the “high” of a workshop, coming back to the everyday world can feel like a bit of a “low”.
Why do we sometimes feel especially down after a powerful “up”?
It’s not that the work didn’t work. Although our inner cynic might try to convince us of that… No, in most cases – at least this is true for Soul Business workshops – there’s something deeper going on.
I experienced this after my first Going Deeper in Business: Working With Grace workshop.
I woke up two days later with a constriction in my throat. Going down and in to feel what was there, I felt anger, disappointment and then fear.
I realised that I had some “limiting beliefs” that were creating this fear… My self talk went something like this:
“So you’re first workshop went well… So what? That was just beginner’s luck… What if no one comes to the next workshops in Melbourne and Sydney?”
Yuk! No wonder I was feeling bad.
When I sat with these thoughts and feelings, I realised there is a deep spiritual lesson here. Working with Grace means letting the successes be up to Grace, and letting the failures be up to Grace.
My job is to keep the focus on the source of my business direction. Not on “how i think it should be”… because that can change.
The lesson here:
As Brandon Bays, founder of transformational personal growth work The Journey, always says: That’s why it’s called “the Journey”, not “a bandaid”.
If you just want quick fix business solutions to avoid the ups and downs of life, working with Grace really doesn’t help. (And I don’t know what does…. I mean, Life happens to everyone, right?)
But if you want the kind of authenticity that allows you to be yourself in your business and in life, and to gracefully navigate the ups and downs and the calm waters in between, then Working with Grace can help.
How to support your self and your business after a transformational workshop:
What feels like a “down” can be part of the transformation that actually working with Grace requires. During the workshop, deep shifts can take place and there can be some inner adjustments as we integrate those changes.
- The first and most important thing is to be gentle with yourself. You may feel really excited and rearing to go in your business, or you may feel a bit tender and unsure about how the new pieces that have been emerging actually fit together. They do fit together… but it’s important not to force things, but rather give them time to come together organically.
- Allow feelings, emotions and needs around your business. Remember to go “down and in” to feel it. (Not up and out to “fix it”.) This will serve you in the long run as you create a sustainable and sustaining business.
- You can use the “Finding the Right Questions” worksheet to check if there is some deeper question underlying your feelings, that you can use to move forward from here.
- Take time for yourself. Write in your journal. Remember that you are first in line for your jewel.
Working with Grace is a whole new paradigm in business. So, be gentle with yourself as you embrace this paradigm, and draw on the support of others who are embracing this paradigm with you.

Thanks for the reminder about compassion – very timely. There have been a number of occasions when I have felt a drive within me to ‘get more done’, which ironically was freezing me to the spot. I relaxed into it and then followed my heart into action.
I have also shared the results of the ‘Soul of the Business’ process with a potential business partner and was excited to notice how free and easy it felt. The usual need for approval and confirmation was gone, leaving a simple sense of confidence in Grace.
Thanks Yollana for your continued support.
Love and blessings,
James
@james, this is a great way of explaining it… I’m sure there are lots of people who can relate to the sense of the ‘drive to get more done’ that is freezing you to the spot. I’m so glad to hear you relaxed into it! I’m also deligthed to hear that the ‘Soul of the Business’ process is helpful. Hooray for Grace!
